Our practice takes pride in utilizing the latest in technology to provide better care for our patients.
3D Imaging: Kodak 9000 / Carestream 9000
Our most recent acquisition is a 3-D imaging system from Kodak (now Carestream) which uses cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) to provide a 3-D image of complex root canal anatomy. The Kodak 9000 provides a 76-micron voxel size, which is among the finest on the market, and the limited scanning area allows for the least amount of radiation to the patient as well.
For more information about radiation dose of the Kodak 9000, please see the Kodak website.
Digital Radiography: Kodak 6100
The Kodak 6100 digital imaging sensor provides fast and sharp radiographic images. With a resolution greater than 20 line-pairs per millimeter and pixel size of 18.5 microns, even the smallest of details may be seen. The benefit to the patient is that radiation exposure is reduced by 1/2 to 1/10 that of conventional film. Previous studies with fast film showed an absorbed dose of 10-20 uSv, whereas digital radiography has an absorbed dose of about 3 uSv.
Operating Microscopes: Global Surgical microscopes
Magnification for the treatment of root canals is crucial. It allows the endodontist to identify highly calcified canals, visualize the extent of tooth fractures, and preserve the nature tooth structure. It's even been shown to increase the success rate of apical microsurgery! The office is outfitted with Global Surgical microscopes and digital SLR cameras for patient and doctor communication.
